*Obviously, Holiday is meant as more than a one season rental. He would need to be willing to sign a long-term (3-4 year) contract with the Heat for a reasonable amount. Otherwise, no go. Herro has 4-year contract at a reasonable amount and can be converted to full-time PG.
Butler claiming tampering, after Lillard attempted to tamper his way to Miami is pretty funny. Miami's offer was weak as a result of said tampering, so the tone of this article is strange.
Butler's comment was meant as a joke. After experiencing so many years of misery, did your town lose it's sense of humor. Lighten tf up and laugh a little. Choose to be happy!
Look -- the Heat had all the opportunity in the world to make a better offer. They didn't do it. I don't blame Portland for going in another direction. Milwaukee made a good offer, particularly because Jrue will be flopped for young assets. Tyler Hero was never going to get it done in a Dame trade. Quit whining and get ready for the season.
You are dead wrong. Read the reports of what Cronin asked for. One of his asks was for Butler. Lol! Yeah that was a serious ask considering the Blazers window. Bam I can understand, but the second he said Butler he was trolling and not a serious partner. All good. Enjoy that "haul"
For all that are blaming Riley - reports are slowing coming out on how Portland wanted Bam or Butler in return. So yeah, Dame to Miami was never going to happen
with all the hate Miami is getting during the Dame stand off and being laughed at after it, i cant wait for the season to start. lots of possibilities, scenarios can happen. lick your wounds Miami and get ready for training. grind again and maybe, just maybe, surprise us again. hope not lost. never forget. three percent. lets go Heat!
Big old LOL at the Heat for overplaying their hand and the arrogance with which they did it. Here's to the Heat flaming out in the first round next year.
I had not gone over to Blazers Edge the entire time during this ordeal. I went over to get a sense of the crowd in the Holiday trade article. Wow! The vitriol towards Miami is hilarious. Bruh, we're not even in the same conference. Just because Dame asked to be traded to the Heat? Aight? Really? Then I realized how spoiled we are, especially compared to an organization that hasn't won since the 70's (hello, Knicks) and blew the Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant picks. Heat fans have no idea of real pain.
Good luck, Blazers! If history is an indicator, you're really going to need it.
I know some will disagee but I have to think Pat did a crappy job and deserves some criticism in his handling of this trade, and his draft picks, and really everything that has transpired since he was fortunate enough to acquire Jimmy and have Bam blossom the way he did. Those two players saved him from everyone seeing how poor his judgement has become since. Yes, they went very far with what they had but a championship is but a pipedream now. There were moves he could have made that woud have made Jimmy's last highly effective year much more promising. But, because of his stupid draft picks and a few of his ill advised giant contracts given, he had no capital left to acquire a player who it should have been, if you will excuse the expression, a slam dunk for. Welcome to mediocrity Heat fans.
Riley made mistakes, true. But he also made some magic, even in past years.
Heat has the best players development program in the league. They used they rare pick in past years very wisely and are one of the best teams regarding that. They are also very good to get good role players for small price.
But Riley always try to underpay whales. He gets Butler for nothing, but he failed to get KD and Lillard.
Overall, we should be happy with Riley and the front office. Top 5 in the league for sure.
How many NBA teams are there? Bout 30 man. The Heat don't play in a league by themselves. People and their own free will also comes in to play. Cronin DID NOT want to deal with Miami no matter what they offered, maybe minus Bam. Look at the Suns. They traded for Durant and lost due to no bench. They went and made moves but doesn't guarantee a title. All the experts would have thought Tatum and Brown would have already won one. They haven't. Same experts said 76ers are team of future with Embiid and Simmons. Didn't turn out that way. The favorites to win the title haven't won it the last few years. Bucks now favored. Shit happens. All you can do it consistently put yourself in the mix and hope things break your way. The Heat have done that better than anyone the last few years. They have the most playoffs wins in last few years. S**t, the freaking Heatles only won 2 out of 4.
But hey, we're Celtics fan base now. It's a shame.
I appreciate your positivity and your faith in the GM. And I realize its definitely in the zeitgeist here to maintain an upbeat point of view and negativing out is criticized harshly. So have at it and I understand, especially after all tthe success we have had. But, this is my honest take and I can't not see what I see.
It's never about maintaining an upbeat view. It's about not pooping your pants until it's time to poop your pants. The season hasn't even started and we're supposed to make some declaration that all hope is lost? Before day 1 of training camp? What if Jovic starts flashing Dirk Jr potential? What if Jacquez shows sign sof being a dependable rotation player? What if Bam starts hitting two 3's per game? What if we make an in-season trade? What if? If not, then we can all crap togther once they are bounced.
Ok, I may be a bit premature and also little selective in my observationa. Also during that time we had a few wonderful hits on Martin, Strus and Vincent. And Herro was a good draft choice. And Highsmith may give us a lttle help. But, on the negative side, there's definite bads in Lowry, Love (dont tell me he is good, at best he hurts more than helps), Zeller, need I go back to Harkness and just about everyone from that year, Duncan's contract, and probably Jovic, who it will be a surprise if he works out. The jury is still out on Jaquez, and whether Richardson will help. I think Bryant will be just okay, and am glad we got him. Our draft choice of Precious, even traded, was just okay. So, big picture, Riles has not done that well since acquiring Butler, and he's been jilted four times by whales, and while waiting he's missed out on a lot of good opportunities to improve us. Its valid for him to be criticized. We were so fortunate getting Butler and Bam, and if Riles could have gotten them adequate support, we would be watching a parade down Flagler Street.
Thank you for your common sense approach. It’s not about being homers, it’s about being realistic. If we had given away the store for Lillard, people would want him fired. If he got Lillard for a good deal, they’d be calling him exec of the year. And Bam, Herro, Jovic and Jaquez were bad picks? Wow.
I have noticed with the increase in team sites and comment sections over the last few years, to be considered a fan now you have to want to fire everyone from GM to coach to dump all the players, pretty much every season you don't win it all, or you're not the "real" fan. It's called being a spoiled entitled brat, like Celtics fans, which we are now.
The shoulda, coulda, woulda crowd are not real fans of basketball. They have idols and are upset they can't accumulate more idols. These armchair general managers think that by getting a specific player they will make it to the promised land. Well, the road to championships in sports is littered with the wrecks caused by ill-advised signings to accumulate talent.
Team building is a balancing act, few are adept at doing it and fewer still at understanding it.
As many have expressed here, Holiday would be a perfect fit, especially playing next to Herro. He's a great defender and doesn't require the ball in his hands. That being said, I can't imagine Cronin would still be open to dealing with the Heat. Scorned lover for sure. Plus, it sounds like everyone is in on Holiday lol.
I don’t think Cronin would care if Heat offer 2 FRPs + Jovic. Getting Jrue just for 2 FRPs is likely unrealistic though: Celtics can outbid this easily.
I have always been a fan of Jrue Holiday's basketball skills. He's a true point guard who excels in both offense and defense. I even wished that the Heat would acquire him when he was still with Memphis. However, there are two factors that worry me now.
Firstly, his age. He is currently 33 years old and will turn 34 during the playoffs. I am concerned because he seemed to struggle with consistency during the playoffs when facing the Heat. In the last three games, his 3-point shooting became noticeably poor. I am unsure if this was due to the Heat's defense, injuries, or simply his age.
Secondly, his contract is a concern. According to NBC Sports, he will earn a minimum of $34.9 million this season, with an additional $1.9 million in likely incentives. He also has a $37.4 million player option (plus incentives) for next season and can be extended from that. He has expressed interest in signing a contract extension once he becomes eligible on Jan. 23.
Despite these concerns, Holiday is still a better option than Lowry, especially since he is younger and more athletic. However, he is now with Portland, would they be amenable to a trade this time? I doubt that Portland would be interested in Lowry or Herro as trade options, so a third team would be necessary.
If we were to make a trade, we would need to move Lowry. We could sweeten the deal with a veteran player, a young player, or draft picks. What would the package be?
Heat with JRue is a title contender, Heat with Lowry probably not. So the trade should benefit Heat. And Lowry should go in the opposite direction. There is some logic in it, becuase Portland can get rid of Lowry and his big contract with buyout next february.
Lowry, Martin and 2nd pick would be probably enough for Portland, but thats too much to give for Miami.
Other versions of this trade requires more players and maybe third team, is its not exactly trivial.
The main question for heat now is, who is starting point guard. I dont think its Herro, and not Richardson. Both are bad playmakers. So we will probably see shared playmaking from Butler, Bam, and guards, which will start. We will need another point guard for insurance, I believe, Goran would be excellent in such role.
Jrue for Lowry (salary dump), Martin (lucky to get FRP, likely SRP only when trading him away) and SRP? Man, you are delusional.
Jrue is worth 2 FRPs. Like if my Mavs didn’t have Kyrie, I’d be fine with offering FRP + Josh Green in a heartbeat and that probably wouldn’t be enough. Celtics will likely come out with 2 FRPs and GSW with 1 FRP + Kuminga. You guys will need to send out 2 FRPs and Lowry to get this done. Maybe get this done.
Caleb Martin averaged 12.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 23 games in the 2023 playoffs. That makes him top 5 player of team, which play NBA finals.
Everything good about Josh, but he is not at that level and he will never be. So this trade would offer less to Portland then Miamis.
I wonder what would you say if Portland would ask for Luka.
Other teams fans always underestimate Heat players. I dont know exactly why, but its probably related to that they probably coming in NBA through development program, and are not high picks or hyped players. Its just not sexy.
Caleb Martin averaged 12.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 23 games in the 2023 playoffs. That makes him top 5 player of team, which play NBA finals.
He is much younger, and he makes 5 times less then JRue. This is a balanced offer, which should be at least evaluated by a smart front office.
Anyway, Miami wont trade Martin for JRue. He is just too valuable.
Dragic played injuried last year. I believe he is not done yet.
Jimmy is calling for an investigation for possible tampering. He said someone told him it might have some weight to it. Let it go JB. Just be healthy and make another run for us
Short memories. He's making a reference to Heat's tampering charge with Lowry. Since nobody had heard Bucks were possible, he's using a little callback. I thought it was well played
I don’t get that. What tampering could there be? Players talk all the time. I heard a report that Dame was asked if he would be okay to go to Bucks and I think he kinda signed off on it. But it’s not like the Bucks contacted him directly - unless they did and he knows something.
Even if they did, it will be just a slap on the wrist penalty since it’s not Miami :)
I've been saying it all summer, and I'll say it again. Let the other teams win the offseason. Miami wins in the postseason.
I think Dame is a great player, and I would have loved to see him in a Heat uni. That said, I still really like this Heat squad, and the Heat ate Giannis's lunch 2 out of 3 series in the past 4 years.
Seems to me that there are many Heat haters out there including "league sources" working against Miami's interest. Jimmy and Lowry got to Miami without much ado. All the way up there in Uranus, I heard about trade talks on KD, Donovan, Beal and Dame and these trades fell through. Bucks got Lillard and Toronto way back got Kawhi without so much as a whisper heard. Lesson #1. Next time , Miami FO , please keep these trade talks closer to your chest than your heart beat. Maybe and just maybe, the Heat fans will get a pleasant surprise.
You should be more aware that the Miami front office is notoriously tight-lipped. The Portland FO, Lillard, and his agent turned this situation into a drawn-out circus.
Lillard must be really offended now, since the package they got is considerably less than what the Heat likely offered.
A certain guy has been one of the top salesman in the company for 4 years running, but he hasn’t been #1. So, the logical thing to do is fire him? That’s silly.
This is nuts. Jrue Holiday is way better than Tyler Hero. Milwaukee also gave up a 1st and 2 swaps, plus the Blazers wound up withAyton as well. Portland did just fine, and it will look even better when they flip Jrue.
Holiday should get you a first round pick, no doubt. That nets you Ayton and 2 first rounders. The speculation of the Heat package was that you would get one of Jovic or Jaquez, possibly Martin, 2-3 first round picks, and still end up with Ayton as part of the Herro trade to a third party.
You can’t get 3 FRPs from Miami: Heat don’t have 3 FRPs to begin with. That 3rd FRP would have been from Herro trade to another team, which means Ayton isn’t happening.
So the offer would be 3 FRPs + Jovic + possibly Martin or Ayton + 2 FRPs + Jovic + possibly Martin.
Assuming Jrue is traded to GSW, Portland got Ayton + 2 FRPs + Kuminga: that’s already as good package for a rebuilding team as best Heat’s offer. If it’s Boston, it is likely Ayton + 3 FRPs.
The Heat could have offered 3 frp by removing the restrictions on the pick the Thunder are holding. Herro and some other combination then could have had Ayton moving to Portland. Not saying it would have worked, only that it was possible
jrue holiday and ayton and some fillers thats by far better than anything the heat could have offered rc.jaquez and jovic are long shots to become good nba players.i like the acquisitions of bryant and j rich with orobs development as the reason why i think we are better.
Depends on what they get for Holiday. It wasn’t “far” better. The likely Heat offer was 1 vet, 2 young players and 3 first round picks.
And, as usual, you have no idea what Jovic and Jaquez will become, but you’ll jump on the bandwagon straightaway if they do well. I think each will be at least average or above.
Portland doesn't need to deal with Miami re: Holiday. Three-way deal with Utah works as go-between.
-- Holiday to Heat
-- Herro, Martin and Richardson to Utah
-- Collins and Olynyk to Portland
Miami Starters: Holiday (6'4"), Butler (6'7"), Jaquez (6'7"), Bam (6'9"), ORobinson (7'0")
*Obviously, Holiday is meant as more than a one season rental. He would need to be willing to sign a long-term (3-4 year) contract with the Heat for a reasonable amount. Otherwise, no go. Herro has 4-year contract at a reasonable amount and can be converted to full-time PG.
So you expect Portland to give Jrue away for John Collins? Low-balling for Dame didn’t teach you anything, I guess?
Jrue will fetch FRP + a young player at the very least, possibly 2 FRPs. Why on earth would Portland go for a 26 year old Collins on a bad contract?
Butler claiming tampering, after Lillard attempted to tamper his way to Miami is pretty funny. Miami's offer was weak as a result of said tampering, so the tone of this article is strange.
Butler's comment was meant as a joke. After experiencing so many years of misery, did your town lose it's sense of humor. Lighten tf up and laugh a little. Choose to be happy!
GO HEAT!
I literally pointed out the situation as being funny...

Miami realized it was not worth mortgaging their future for a one shot deal. Common sense.
That's what they said last year. Meanwhile in Portlandia...another year of worthlessness and irrelevance.
This is a bit harsh, but the sentiment is right. Heat could have made a better offer, didn't want to. End result is they didn't get Dame.
Hey Birdsong, since you were part of the conversations between Cronin and Riley, could you share the details you're privy to no one else knows?
At least there will be first round next year.... :)
Gfy, ahole. If you were actually able to read, you’d note most here are glad we didn’t give in to your idiot gm.
Let the irrational hate flow through you, Tim. Swerve in to that curve.
I had not gone over to Blazers Edge the entire time during this ordeal. I went over to get a sense of the crowd in the Holiday trade article. Wow! The vitriol towards Miami is hilarious. I know. All along we didn’t say we hated Portland in any way and hoped we could make a deal that worked for both sides. It didn’t happen. So what.
Yeah, making a deal that “worked for both sides” with 2 FRPs and Herro. It was a very good deal for Heat at least.
Mavs fan here.
While no one knows exactly what was offered, I suspect it was considerably more than Herro and 2 picks. Not sure where you came up with that.
Ok, I may be a bit premature and also little selective in my observationa. Also during that time we had a few wonderful hits on Martin, Strus and Vincent. And Herro was a good draft choice. Also, on the plus side, O Robinson may help a little too.
Thank you for your common sense approach. It’s not about being homers, it’s about being realistic. If we had given away the store for Lillard, people would want him fired. No Dame then.
I m not unhappy.
We have very good and interesting team, with a lot of good young players.
With an improvement or two good enough team to contend.
Centers are not impactfull as they used to be, especially not classic type ones,
as Ayton is. He also has atitude problems, and didnt play much in PO,
because Luka torture him in every possible way.
But thats Portlands problem, not ours.
But having JRue would be great, and we still need starting point guard.
How about a pick, Lowry and a young player for Jrue?
FRP + Jovic? Maybe, but GSW can counter with FRP + Kuminga, who has already players meaningful minutes in playoffs.
Doesnt work. It should be Martin. Which already played several really good games in PO.
You are a good, smart man!
Plenty will disagree with this statement, but I ll take it :).
You are not bad too.
I have always been a fan of Jrue Holiday's basketball skills. He's a true point guard who excels in both offense and defense. I even wished that the Heat would acquire him when he was still with Memphis. However, there are two factors that worry me now.

he looked a little impaired to at the time.hes pissed his champ dreams most likely were vanished unless pat can get holiday.
"most likely vanished" that's your forever take everytime the Heat does not look like a stacked team as per your preferred structure.
"they're not gonna go out of the first rd vs Bucks"
down double digits at the half, after 3rd, at the 4th..."its a loss"
you've been been putting down your team so many times. just sad, bro
It is. Maybe doom and gloom would be fair if the team missed the playoffs year after year, but that simply hasn’t been the case.
Camp hasn't started, so probably a few Michelob Ultra's lol

Yeah, we haven’t won much lately without Lillard. Dumazz comment.
Maybe. Maybe not. But we know Portland won't win one.
Ahh, nothing better to lean on than absolute truth.
u might want to change that handle maybe from oregoner to floridian to get cred
lol. I love the Miami Heat basketball organization, but it will be a cold summer in Miami before I leave Portland to move back to Florida
pat call charlotte they have ball give them tyler deal done.we need a pg big time.rozier above average.ty plays zero defense.
Only a Heat fan would think Herro is worth the same as Lamelo lol
Please read the full context above not just the Lilard trade.
Wow, it seems like your perspective is limited to your own thoughts.
dudes from urasnus r like that very self centered
Pat offended the blazers with an offer of Herro and 1-2 firsts in 2028 and 29. And he offended Dame too., by offering so little. Pat needs to retire.
Goofy.
Why would Damian care about what the Blazers' FO does with their roster? He just wanted out, and got it (albeit a different team).
You're crazy.
jrue holiday and ayton and some fillers thats by far better than anything the heat could have offered rc.jaquez and jovic are long shots to become good nba players.i like the acquisitions of bryant and j rich with orobs development as the reason why i think we are better.
You're probably right -- we don't know what Jovic and Jaquez will become. Flameouts are as likely as rotation pieces.
Herro gonna average 30 #revengeSzn
Pat: im sorry for making you a trade piece. just business kid. but since it didnt happen, as a peace offering, you have the keys to our offense lol
