I thought he was already under contract. He seems like a solid player, I'm hoping Cain, Highsmith, Jovic, and O.Robinson are the next round of Skyforce guys coming up to the big leagues
I think until the Lillard situation is resolved, the Heat will be leaving the final roster spot open to possibly sign a free agent to a vet minimum $ contract. There are still a few out there. If the trade is completed, Heat will likely have several spots open and will upgrade Cain at that time.
I have not seen anything in the way the Heat have behaved this offseason that leads me to believe they are waiting for the Lillard situation to resolve, aside from the fact that they aren't targeting any trades. Otherwise, they have signed their draft pick, used the mid-level on two players, and filled out the roster with g-league dudes.
The fact they haven't traded for a pg to replace Vincent tells you all you need to know. If Lillard trade wasn't hanging in the wind, they would already have traded for a starting pg (likely for an upgrade over Vincent, not just a player of equal or lesser value).
with all due respect to Gabe the Great, that dude was a Skyforce player on a league minimum contract. When he first stepped into the role, the idea is that he would hold down the fort until Oladipo came back, and he ended up being the backup PG for 3 years.
So I'm assuming they'll train up a new Skyforce guy to play backup PG, and if he doesn't seem up for it they'll make a move around the trade deadline
You know what they say happens when you assume? Do you really think Smith or Bouyea is ready to start if Lowry goes down? I don't.
Gabe was a multiple year project SG converted to a back-up PG. The only reason he got so much playing time is that Lowry missed so many games.
From your posts on Blazer's Edge, it appears you have moved on from a Miami/Dame trade possibility and are hoping Portland trades for a big man. In a way, so do I. That way Miami can look elsewhere to acquire a decent PG to go with existing personnel (that includes 20 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 4.2 apg, 38% 3-pt% and 93.4 ft% Herro). He looked pretty good yesterday during the Miami Pro League Final. https://youtu.be/yqMdr1q7fPI
The numbers work, but it gets rid of any youth for the forseeable future. Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket? I would prefer using assets to trade for an established PG like Rozier or getting a young PG with potential like Killian Hayes, rather than gutting the team for a one or two shot deal at a championship. But that's just me.
I know you are a big Portland fan, but did you suddenly lose sight of the fact Miami needs a PG not another SF. Ingram is not worth Herro and Martin. Plus, Miami already has a small forward. A fellow by the name of Butler. Snap out of it! Focus. PG...PG...PG.
I agree and would hope the Heat never did a trade like that. Getting rid of all young players while not unloading at least one of Lowry or Duncan contracts should be a non starter.
They will still need Lowry as back-up PG or Smith or Bouyea will need to step up. Robinson is a more likely candidate to trade until/unless Miami can pick up both a starting PG to replace Vincent and a back-up PG tp replace Lowry.
Happy for Cain, he showed that he wanted it but at the appearance of being selfish sometime during the summer league games.
Cain can!

Very happy we’re holding on to Cain.
Me too. He can help this year. It's why I think JRich is redundant as they are similar players.
Maybe, but Richardson has the experience while Cain has the youthful athleticism. And if one is unavailable….

1 spot unlike 2 open spots in my opinion is a clearer indication that the Heat are patient but still have other pressing business to deal with.
any trade rumors to report
Miami gets: Lillard
Portland gets: Ingram, Jaquez, Jovic, 2 Miami picks
New Orleans gets: Tyler Herro, Caleb Martin
Heat Roster:
PG: Lillard/Lowry/Smith/ Bouyea
SG: Robinson/Cain
SF: Butler/Highsmith
PF: Love,
C: Bam, Bryant, ORob,

If the Heat can get Ingram for Herro and Martin, keep Jamie J and the picks and let the Blazers keep Lillard
I would stay as we are and let New Orleans keep Ingram. He is deficient in the most important skill a player can have, availability.
yeah but he's proficient in the other most important skill a player can have, he's good as hell

I agree on the pg issue, but feel strongly that if Lillard is added, the salaries of Duncan, Lowry, or both need to be moved out.
Worse case scenario is Dragic could give you 10 minutes a game. Or one of the g leaguers.
Jamal Mashburn for Dan Majerle
