As a Blazers fan I really hope a trade can get done. But some how Miami needs to find another team to get involved to take Herro and sweeten the deal for Portland. I'm hoping that's what's going on. This thing is starting to get ugly and with Dame saying only Miami and Goodwin calling teams Blazers fans are changing their tune on Lillard. I just know I'm getting tired of this saga and hope it ends somehow with all parties happy. But the longer it drags on the closer I get to saying I don't care where he goes. I just want this over.
Miami has several deals ready to go but Cronin is just being spiteful. He's not even trying to engage in the search for that great deal he's looking for. It's like a jilted lover refusing to let go.
Cut your losses and move on. You're going to destroy your relationship with your franchise best player over one extra draft pick that you aren't guaranteed to hit on?
I think you’re right and that is what’s going on behind the scenes. Heat, and maybe even the Blazers, are calling any and every team to not only find a team which is very interested in Herro, but also determining what that team could send to Portland to make them happy. I think Herro would be a good fit with the Spurs and grow with Wemby and Pop on a team that’s not in win now mode. And a first round pick from them to Portland, along with our picks and other players, could finally get this deal done. Let’s hope so, because, like you, we just want this over.
“ Q: Before I begin, this isn’t a Tyler Herro fan man, this is stating unequivocal facts. You mentioned that Tyler Herro is a capable No. 3 option on a playoff roster, but the jury is out if on a championship team. Well, you can’t be a champion without being in the playoffs. so that is just a confusing hypothetical to begin with. But the fact that a 19-year-old Tyler did what only one other 19-year-old has ever done in the NBA Finals, as a rookie, until this very moment, to go along with 14.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists in six games. He then led all NBA players in fourth-quarter minutes played in 2021. I guess you cherry pick memories, like the 37 points in Game 4 vs. Boston where he closed the fourth quarter with 17 points. You are so “objective” in your analysis that your bias against how good this young man has already proven to be is off putting and can’t be taken seriously. – David, Miami.
A: Whoa. Throughout this whole trade-speculation process, I think Tyler Herro has been treated completely unfairly, as if some type of throwaway player that no one wants or needs. The sticking point with Portland has been their surfeit of talent at his position. Tyler Herro is far more valuable than the way he has been minimized amid the Damian Lillard speculation. He has been on the cusp of All-Star for years. And of the 12 players drafted ahead of him in 2019, I’m not sure an argument could be made about anyone other than Ja Morant, and perhaps Darius Garland outperforming him (considering all the missed time by Zion Williamson), It is no slight to say that Tyler Herro at the moment is not the equal of Damian Lillard. But it is a slight to consider him a player that a contender might not want.”
So Orlando finished the game with 36 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks ,and 3-4 from beyond the arc. Also a +19 on court...it's only summer league, but I feel he Is ready to contribute more to the team. hopefully he doesn't get traded to lol.
Next game if Drew Smith or Bouyea look good, they are going to want them thrown in too. Poor fellas are frustrated, angry and confused from all the gaslighting directed their way by Allen and Cronin. It sucks to be a loyal fan of a team that has an incompetent owner and GM. I really do feel for them. Portland deserves better.
Lol you might be on to something there, but I have the same sentiments towards those poor fellas, Dealing with that poorly run organization. Can't blame them for wanting more talent from a championship contender.
I've only seen highlights, but I like what I've seen from Orlando. He can catch the ball in traffic and finish in a crowd. If he can handle NBA level defense, he'll be a good player this season
Lol you missing out this a good game!, but I feel the same way, especially if knock down 3s at a decent or good rate. Even spo sitting down next to Bryant watching the game and bam sitting next to his buddy tatum.
yeah he's been trolling me on the Portland site also. I forgive it, I've definitely gone to troll Celtics and Sixers blogs during playoff series. The Blazers haven't made the playoffs in years and won't be making the playoffs anytime soon, so this is as close as this poor guy can get
Speaking the truth and being a portland fan can be mutually exclusive. And if you have worked in the business of commercial real estate, you would understand the saying. Regardless, there are a ton of moving parts + competition for Dame’s basketball services. Heat fans are acting like it’s a foregone conclusion he lands in Miami. At present, Pat may have the will but he lacks the assets. He needs to get busy involving other teams. Portland has minimal use for the spare parts being offered. A blind man can see that.
Oh yeah, as far as competition for his services, how about the story that he won’t report to a team he doesn’t want to go to. Not sure of the validity of that, but he and his agent have been adamant that he only wants the Heat. Think other teams might be a tad hesitant to poke that bear?
I did not work in real estate, but worked for a highly respected global organization, subscribe to recognized business publications, and follow the market. In business, some deals take longer than others, particularly if there are multiple moving parts. I’m not saying Lillard definitely comes here, though I believe that will be the end result. I’m saying there’s no likelihood of Portland sitting him all or part of the season. That would be organizational suicide.
If they had an astute GM who had a clue what he was doing, I might agree with you. So far, his biggest claims to fame are promising Dame he would build a contending team around him then immediately stabbing him in the back by drafting PG Scoot Henderson, giving Grant $160M and signing no offense Thybulle to a $33M contract. I think Cronin is a short-timer and Portland is destined for years of mediocrity. But, that's just me.
Meanwhile, in Portland...

You also have to keep in mind that Jody is looking at selling the team so they are being very conservative. Big risk trades aren’t in their playbook so that is why you didnt see any of the picks traded—Dame was trying to force them to trade them. When you say Blazers don’t have anything to lose, there is a lot to lose in that a bad trade or a bad contract can set this team back by years and a protracted fight with Dane and his agent can damage the team’s reputation with other players and agents. Sac and Charlotte are the poster children of perpetual rebuilds. Blazer Mgmt was committed to Dame only in wanting him to stay, but weren’t committed to building a short-term contender at the risk of losing long-term assets. I think the Dame ship has set sail and it won’t be possible to keep him if we could sign Siakam or OG at this point. I really dont think it was possible to win a championship with Dame as we can’t get the right pieces. You either need to draft a unicorn player like Jokic or you need to be in a big market that can land free agents like Lakers. It has gotten harder with each generation as NBA rules and player’s mentality favors the big markets.
Portland doesn't hold the keys to anything. The longer your franchise drags this out, the more damage control will be needed. Dame is done playing the loyal soldier. The Celtics have dropped out of the trade talks and The Nets are more interested in Herro than Lillard. The non-mouth pieces indicate The Blazers have placed themselves into a bad corner. The trade will eventually happen.
Keys to the lambo lmao is that why no notable free agents wanna play there? Or is that why all the best players who ever played their Clyde/dame wanted to and end up leaving? As a blazers fan when are you gonna realize you’re not gonna get fair or equal trade value for Lillard? Stop listening to others
I'm guessing the end of next week. Once the draft, free agency, and summer league is over, everyone wants to go on vacation and start the offseason for real. My guess is this deal happens at the end of summer league.
If the Dame deal falls through, I would still try to trade Herro for Rozier. Charlotte already has Ball at PG. Herro has a higher upside but Rozier is a better PG.
You can't trade Herro for Rozier, Tyler is a way better player. I think Herro is awesome, but this is the third time the Heat have tried to trade him in two years. First Durant, then Mitchell, and now Dame. I don't know how many times they can dangle him in trades before there is irreparable damage done
Fair question. i think if the Dame deal doesn't go through we're probably looking at Lowry as the starting point guard, and he gets shipped out sometime around the trade deadline
yeah, i mean even if the Dame trade does go through, and the Heat send out Lowry and Herro, they're pretty thin at guard depth. I don't have all the answers. But I don't think a 1-for-1 trade with Herro is going to be the solution to the problem
Portland doesn't want him because Cronin has staked his reputation around Scoot & Sharpe, he can't bring in a better guard that will take the ball out of their hands. It's the Same reason Portland doesn't want Maxi or LaVine. That is basketball 101
Sharpe and Scoot will be way better than Herro can even dream of being. It’s that simple. No gm wants a $30M player as a backup. And while are at it, Ants better than Herro too.
I’m glad you believe that about Simons, who is a good young player. But, let’s explore that. Points, assists, fg%, 3p%, ft% are nearly exactly the same. Herro has more than twice as many rpg and Simons defensive rating is worse than Herro’s (and that’s saying something). So, no.
So you admit that Cronin was just stringing Dame along the whole time until he got ready to repay his loyalty by stabbing him in the back by drafting Henderson rather than using the #3 pick to trade for a player (or two) who could help make Portland a playoff/contending team? Interesting perspective. Kind of short-sighted don't you think? As a result, no NBA player is going to trust your owner or GM in the future. If they play there, it will only be for the money, then they will be gone the first chance they get. It must really suck to be a Blazer fan right now. I feel your pain.
How the trade rumors worked out for Boston and jaylen brown. He still looks fine to me. Nba is a business and this is what he signed up for. If the trade falls through, he just need to focus on getting better.
I don’t understand where this thought comes from. He’s a professional, I’m sure the team was transparent with him — guessing by how many former players are happy to come back either as players or coaches — and he knows the guys in that locker room are rooting for him. Nobody gets special treatment with the Heat and he buys into the culture.
If anything, I would guess he would be excited to stay. Didn’t he just buy a house in the area?
My socmeds getting flooded with Heat/Dame updates, hearsays, what have you... I feel for Tyler, if this trade doesn't pull through he's gonna play the Heat colors still and with some resentment that a 33yo guy is wanted in Miami more than him. At least he's gonna learn early its also a business. But that's just sad.
Well, I just hope we get to the finals again or win it all if we're able to get Dame. This won't age well if we get Lillard then crash & burn while seeing Ty average 30 next season. Cringe -worthy scenario yikes 😬😳
I think, in a way, Herro's development is being somewhat slowed by Jimmy. Herro has so far surprised, but Jimmy is just a more effective and efficient bucket getter.
I'm not really sure where Herro ultimately lands. Can he sustain the improved finishing at the rim he started this last season with in a playoff run? Can he begin to use his own shooting prowess to manipulate defenses, craft open space, and spark the type of rotation bending offense we look our best playing? Can he better navigate screens at the point of attack so immediate help and scramming rotations isn't needed at the start of a defensive possession?
He's at the point where, lacking overwhelming physicality, he's refining the mental aspects of the game, engaged in that tête-à-tête that separates combo guards from point guards from superstars.
I believe in Herro. But I'm also not a betting person.
Because Butler doesn't have someone who can score 22 points with him consistently. Bam plays too timid at times. This scoring by committee isn't going to be enough to win a title. Lillard brings 25-32 points a night guaranteed. He's also clutch as hell. And don't mention Dwight Howard again. He doesn't fit Heat Culture and he's overseas for a reason now -- fucking sucks.
It's that he creates offense as the screener and not as the ballhandler. Which means production isn't entirely dependent on him. Bam is a force multiplier. But if you're going 0-4 or 1-5 from the floor...

Tyler would the best player on the blazers rn and it’s shouldn’t even be up for debate

Good news - he can’t get traded until December.
That is definitely good news, l've seen a few Trailblazers on there blog talking about adding him to the trade package.

Orlando and jovic balling right now.
I've only seen highlights, but I like what I've seen from Orlando. He can catch the ball in traffic and finish in a crowd. If he can handle NBA level defense, he'll be a good player this season
He balling on offense and defense. He got 9 boards, a couple of blocks, steals ,and assists. Also knock down 3 3s . He got 34 points .
No NBA tv, darn! But following on espn. Orlando 19 at halftime. I felt that he and Bryant were solid upgrades for us. Jovic and Smith also doing well.
Lol you missing out this a good game!, but I feel the same way, especially if knock down 3s at a decent or good rate. Even spo sitting down next to Bryant watching the game and bam sitting next to his buddy tatum.
Who is Dame sitting by, between Spo and Bam?
Blazers GM is sitting next to Woj
Shams>Woj it’s a shame what he has become nothing more than a ESPN shill
Shocker! ;)
Time kills all deals. The longer this drags on, the less likely dame ends up in a heat uni. It’s a business fact.
That ain't no fact SMH. he coming to the heat, it's just a matter of when.
I’m now convinced you’re a Portland fan or a troll. I don’t know what ‘business’ you’re in.
yeah he's been trolling me on the Portland site also. I forgive it, I've definitely gone to troll Celtics and Sixers blogs during playoff series. The Blazers haven't made the playoffs in years and won't be making the playoffs anytime soon, so this is as close as this poor guy can get

Then this will get very ugly for Portland. Dame is pissed and feels betrayed. He will make this hell for them.
You do realize Portland’s holds the keys to the Lambo, right?
If they had an astute GM who had a clue what he was doing, I might agree with you. I don’t see that as remotely possible.

Do you have a better trade for available for a starting PG? I'm open to anything that makes the team better.
Fair question. i think if the Dame deal doesn't go through we're probably looking at Lowry as the starting point guard, and he gets shipped out sometime around the trade deadline

You are right that they don’t want Herro, but not because of his ability. It’s because they have a glut of guards.
Yeah, only dumb GMs like RC Buford and Sam Presti are interested in Herro. Smart GM's like Cronin aren't interested
I’m glad you believe that about Simons, who is a good young player. But, let’s explore that. Points, assists, fg%, 3p%, ft% are nearly exactly the same. Herro has more than twice as many rpg and Simons defensive rating is worse than Herro’s (and that’s saying something). So, no.
Simons being better than Herro is something a crack head would say

yeah we have no pg.turtle aint the answer gabes gone boyeau or bust i guess.pg is a must if dame deal doesnt get done
Imagine if the deal did not push thru how awkward will be for tyler ....

There goes Saric...
https://www.espn.ph/nba/story/_/id/37978182/free-agent-dario-saric-agrees-one-year-deal-warriors
There goes our championship. Well, I guess the offseason was fun while it lasted. See you next year ;)
Bol Bol and Josh Jackson are still available
Just when I thought I was out, you pulled me back in. Championship!
(Full disclosure, legit bummed #HeatLifer Saric didn’t make his way here. Luckily it’s only a 1 year deal)
I'm still holding out hope they bring back Airplane Mode
Why not we get gallinari??
anybody want 2 bols u can get him in a new york manute
My socmeds getting flooded with Heat/Dame updates, hearsays, what have you... I feel for Tyler, if this trade doesn't pull through he's gonna play the Heat colors still and with some resentment that a 33yo guy is wanted in Miami more than him. Tyler is lifer its sad
feel for tyler lol multi multi millionaire new kid ok,lets shed a tear all together hhhers for ty.let me get my kleenex out.

Do we need dame?? We are winning without him we need a dwight howard
Bam's issue isn't timidity.
It's that he creates offense as the screener and not as the ballhandler. Which means production isn't entirely dependent on him. Bam is a force multiplier. But if you're going 0-4 or 1-5 from the floor...
Ehhhh... eye tests say something different. Like most modern bigs, they lack aggression and a killer instinct.
hes timid especially on sundays
We would be more powerful with Lillard. We will be a very good team without him. But please, no Dwight Howard. He’s not a Heat type player. With Bryant, O Robinson, and a full camp and year with Love, our power rotation is in pretty good shape.
Yaaaawwwn....are we there yet?
From the little I've seen of the Blazers so far Tyler Herro would be their best player.
But it would take a GM who knows what he's doing to actually see that.
I watch the Blazers all the time, and I agree that Tyler Herro would be their best player. The cynical part of me thinks that's the reason they don't want him in a trade
Any scenario that Cronin also request that the Heat exchange head coaches to kill the trade?
I am watching Blazer's summer league and can't seem to get Cronin out of my head. Thinking what he is capable of doing to these kids' careers.
