It looks like Miami doesn't plan to trade Jaquez. Yay! I thought since we are all out of guacs (original and Big Guac) we have an opening for a new guac. I'm thinking we need a nickname for Jaquez with a Cali/Mex angle. (El Guaco, Spicy Guac, Cali Guac, Chili Guac, Hot Guac, L.A. Guac, etc.). Any thoughts? Have your people call my people. Meanwhile, check out his UCLA highlight video where he was second team All-American, two time PAC-12 All Defensive Team and PAC-10 Player of The Year. After looking at the film again, a thought occured to me. With a little tutelage under Kyle Lowry, this guy looks like someone who could make a great point guard. Like a combo Guac+Alex Caruso+Max Strus+Marcus Smart. JJ has a ring to it. P.S. His parents call him "Jaimito" (Little Jaime) since his dad is "Jaime." Jaimito just won't fly when you are being compared to Marcus Smart or Alex Caruso.

Has anyone been watching the FIBA basketball?

Are there any Heat players or alumni on any international teams? No Heat players for the US, but Spo is a coach. I'm sure it's a good experience for him to share a bench with Steve Kerr and Ty Lue. In the past, the Heat have hung banners for Gold Medal winners. Would Spo get his name in the rafters?

Kelly Olynik is on Team Canada. And playing very well. His play and skillset really suits Fiba basketball. Canada has an intriguing team and should make it to top 4 this time. Kelly O will play an important part together with SGA and RJ Barrett.

I m. The only one involved is Spo, but I havent seen him on game against Slovenia on bench.

Main coach is Kerr, Spo and Lue are assistants. and I believe coaches are the main strength of US team. I m not impressed with team. A bunch of good players, but 2-3 teams can be stronger on this tournament.

Nah, US has the best team. They do not have top tier superstars, but I like the players selection this year. Brunson and Anthony Edwards are the best players on this team, but they added some good role players too. Mostly young guys, but they have some more experienced too, like Hart and Portis. Roster may not look that impressive, but they play very well. But you are right that the coaching staff is most impressive. Anyway, I think after experiencing highly competitive and slightly different fiba rules basketball, the US team will have more humble approach and will take the gold eventually. But Canada has very good team too (although without Murray and Wiggins). And France, Germany are very strong, too.

I would say France, Australia, Canada are right there, any of those teams can beat US on a good day. Even Germany, Slovenia, Spain can be dangerous.

Brunson and Edwards are the heart of this US team, true.

Anybody here thinking about embiid's situation in philly?

Expand full comment
SunManFromDogBone's avatar

Even when Embiid is healthy, Philly hasn't been able to win anything. Even with Embiid, Miami still has a PG issue. I would rather keep Bam and Herro and trade Lowry or Robinson, a young player and a draft pick for a legit two-way PG.

Embiid in Miami would cost Bam. With this trade we basicly got Philly stars of Embiid and Butler from 4 years ago, which never made it to finals.

Combo Bam-Butler was in finals 3 times in past 4 years.

So I dont think this is a good option.

100% agree here. Embiid has leveled up significantly since the 6er Jimmy days, but I would really not ship Bam for him. Was just wondering where the rumor factory was gonna set its sights now that the harden situation is in free fall. If Philly gets another trade request, people want to see spectacular explosions like the Nets gave us this season and Jimmy and Joel get along like gang busters. Glad we got the consensus down ^^

To be fair, they only had 1 season together and potentially one lucky Kwahi triple bouncer of making a magical run

Philly is cursed because of years of tanking, mascaraded into process, and rigtfully so. That triple bounce was just a start.

Simmons and now Harden drama is just a prelude to Embiid drama.

Correct. And playing for Miami is entirely different than playing for the dysfunctional Sixers.

Andre Iguodala says if he ran a team he’d take 95% of Miami’s culture

“You don’t hear players get in trouble in Miami. That’s all you need to know...in MIAMI. Out of all the places. You don’t see guys get in trouble down in Miami.”Very true
