“ The Miami Heat just had one of the most improbable and memorable playoff runs in NBA history. The eight-seeded team went from being on the brink of elimination in the Play-In Tournament all the way to the NBA Finals. Their quick disposal of the title favorite Milwaukee Bucks is a highlight of their run. Unfortunately for the Heat, their disciplined defense and physicality couldn’t contain the ultra-efficient Denver Nuggets offense. Overall, it was another reminder of head coach Erik Spoelstra’s place as one of the best in the league and Jimmy Butler as a Top 10 player.”
Yes, I know, it’s only one writer’s opinion, so I won’t suggest it’s reality 😀.
Detroit is a young team with plenty of draft picks and also has extra centers (Wiseman, Duren, Stewart, Bagley) and point guards (Cunningham, Ivey, Hayes, Hampton). They also have a 34 year old SF who is under contract for 2 more years (Bogdonovic). They could use Herro and an expiring contract or two, (such as Lowry and or Oladipo) and maybe a draft pick. There is a deal or two in there somewhere. DeRozen is a knock down mid-range shooter on an expiring contract. (Lowry plus a draft pick could work).
pat signed him to 2 year deal guess were stuck with him for one more year.dunc def improved his stock.both of them are not avg nba players rc.ty has value caleb has value.gonna prob lose those 2 in a trade.
Agree... the Heat has more playoff wins in the 4 seasons than All NBA teams including the Buck and Nuggets.... I will add with no rings to show for it. Tells me something has to change to neutralize mismatch from size by these teams.
while it's not an excuse, the Heat had injuries to their top players in the NBA Finals while both the teams they played against were 100% healthy. Of course the Heat can and should get better, but having more playoff success than any other team in the league over the past four years tells me that they don't need to make major changes, they just need to improve on the margins.
Of course, major issue for the Heat all season has been the lack of size at the C/PF position. Love helped a little, and although he brings a lot of experience and veteran presence, obviously he is not a starter anymore and does not solve Heat's problem. To be honest, it is a miracle (and/or excellent job by Spo and the coaching staff) that we got that far having this issue, but it needs to be addressed this offseason.
Do you think Yurt is capable on taking this role after missing most of the last season? In my opinion maybe in 2-3 years(if), but I don't think he will be ready next season. Oscar Robinson was ok too, but also needs more time to develop.
Another player I think we won't see anymore is Victor Oladipo, unfortunately. After so many major injuries to his knee, his future is too much of a questionmark and I think Heat cannot afford that.
Heat will have to move some players in order to aquire some help for Jimmy and Bam. And they need to shed some salary, too. This means Lowry will have to go. He is on an expiring contract, so it will be easier to move him than Duncan. Lowry is still a good player and played better off the bench than as a starter. However Heat cannot afford to pay him 30 million for his 15-20 minutes. He had great flashes in the play offs but at his age and with his knees he is not able to do it consistently. And it won't get any better next season.
But trading Lowry means they need to get a point guard. I don't think Portland will trade Dame and even if they did, it doesn't mean Miami gets him. What are your other ideas for a point guard? Who else would you like to see in the Heat jersey next season?
I still like the idea of a trade/sign and trade of Herro, Lowry and the #18 pick for VanVleet and Siakam. Lowry gets to mentor young players and retire a Raptor, and the Raptors continue to get younger, which seems to be their goal.
Miami's in a tough spot. They clearly need some additional size to match-up against teams like the Nuggets. But given Bam and Jimmy's typical shooting range, that player needs to shoot the three (at a respectable clip).
So that limits Miami to guys like Kristaps, KAT and Vuch, who are supposedly available.
The second issue as I see it is assets. Miami is lacking them. Herro might be the most desirable (given, he shockingly lead Miami in plus/minus last year), but his lack of defense (and maybe upside), might mean that contract is a bit more meh. Then you have the expiring contract of Lowry, which I'd bet a number of teams would take, but if you trade Lowry - you've now opened another hole - PG. Gabe's a free agent, and if you lose him and trade Lowry, you have two giant holes.
I don't want to run it back, I think they need to make some major changes, but I don't see how you do that, without a step back or hitting reset.
Even in a pipe dream where we trade Kyle/Duncan and draft picks for Lillard, we'd have no room to fill the roster around them, and as the big three showed, three elite players, still need help.
I don't envy Pat or Andy this off season, but I have a tough time envisioning starting next year with a roster I think will be competitive in the championship scene. I was wrong about that this year, but it sure didn't look like they could hang, for regular season (and play-in games).
I honestly don’t think they are trading Lillard, but if they did, it would be to full rebuild, in which case Lowry’s contract might be more desirable, than Herro.
Not to mention Anfernee Simons is similar player in terms of spacing on the floor, so where would they play Tyler?
I mean I guess they could like someone more than Scoot in this pipe dream, or they could three team trade it and get more picks, I just feel like if this trade goes down, they’ll want the cap space more than Herro.
some must internal moves.bam can not be a center.max cannot be on team.hh needs to be a starter unless a trade is made then a rotation player.yert needs to work with bam in offseason see how to play off each other.no more one way players.lost to denver mainly cause of size and athleticism
That was very true in Dallas, but changed this season. He played 65 games with 49.8:fg%, 38.5 3p%. Averaged 23/8/3 and 1.5 blocks. When I watched him this season, he just looked healthier and stronger than in previous years.
He is still a good offensive player, but he was bad in defence in Dallas. That was the reason, that he played much less in his last PO games in Dallas. I dont think that changed in Washington.
I was wondering... if you send 4 #1's, to the whale's team as an overpay (which Ithink we have) and then get that team to take Lowry/Robinson or both as part of the package. Then see if VO has anything left and try to trade him if he does and if he doesn't, just eat the salary which isnt too onerous. Then trade Tyler for more of a two way player who can't score as well but plays great d. Then hope Yurt turns into something. Use Caleb or HH as sweetenrs in deals if necessary. Look at Cain, O Robinson, and other minor leaguers too, to see if they can help. Keep Vincent, Strus, ideally both as backups. And try to fill in what else as needed.
This should become much clearer after draft day when we see what Portland does with the 3rd pick. Full rebuild? Lillard becomes available. Trade for an A level player? Lillard stays. The thing is, I don’t see Portland only being one piece away from contending. I think a rebuild makes more sense for them.
To Pat Riley. Get a minimum player, my suggestion is to get Bol Bol from Orlando Magic, he is a 7 footer shooter like Nikola Jokic .

Herro for VanVleet?
of course throw in dunc and max maybe for siakam
You have to sign and trade Strus if he’s part of any deal.
He don't know. He ain't from around these parts.
pat signed him to 2 year deal guess were stuck with him for one more year.dunc def improved his stock.both of them are not avg nba players rc.ty has value caleb has value.gonna prob lose those 2 in a trade.
Dude. Do your homework. Your dealing with the big boys. now.https://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/MIA.html
Strus’ deal is up. He is a ufa
Spotrac:

looks like wash doing a reset, pti talking about herro etc.in a beal package pls bring that 7'3 guy also .beal kp bam jim thats as good as any 4 in nba
That would be a lot of fun to watch. Just getting Beal would be so awesome, I just think its out of reach to get KP too.

porzingis vucevic vanfleet kuzma at least get one dont have to give anything up get two and keep same team pipes dream, ill take one be very happy.
Well, if the Wizards decide to reset, we better be shopping. Porzingis, Kuzma, Beal. I would take all of them :-)
And, of course, the Beal rumors are back.
Another player I think we won't see anymore is Victor Oladipo, unfortunately. After so many major injuries to his knee, his future is too much of a questionmark and I think Heat cannot afford that.
As much as I like him as a player, but we need to be realistic and I think the front office will be.
vics a gonner wasnt even seen at any playoff games.too bad great defender offensively challenged little bit

I don't think that would be appealing enough to the Raptors. VanVleet might leave, but I doubt they would let Siakam go.
kat i dont want.vuc or krist hell yes.besides high athleticism or height need high iq
I’d be okay with any as long as the KAT/Butler issue is no longer an issue.
vuc and gordon couple hundred miles away i hope at least they tried to get one or the other

I definitely hope you are more correct than I am on that. It’d be great.
Herro has been okay at running point here, so maybe pair them in backcourt?
And following that trend, given the odds that the Hornets pass on Scoot are high with Lamelo, the Blazers would likely pick Scoot at PG.
Can’t imagine they’d have a lineup with undersized Scoot, Simons and Herro at the same time.
Oh, you beat me
I mean I guess they could like someone more than Scoot in this pipe dream, or they could three team trade it and get more picks, I just feel like if this trade goes down, they’ll want the cap space more than Herro.
herro can not stay healthy his stock is low, prob gonna have to keep him and p./u somebody u dont have to give assets for van fleet
u got jim and bam thats a good start.theyll figure it out
some must internal moves.bam can not be a center.max cannot be on team.hh needs to be a starter unless a trade is made then a rotation player.yert needs to work with bam in offseason see how to play off each other.no more one way players.lost to denver mainly cause of size and athleticism
porzingis my guy
Porzingis is a high A- player. an A player offensively. He would help most teams in the league.
I also like him. Had a great year, remained healthy, and added much needed bulk. He’d be a great fit.
I dissagree. I watched a lot of him in Dallas. Two problems. He seems always injuried. And spent too much time shooting long distance 2p and 3p.
That was very true in Dallas, but changed this season. He played 65 games with 49.8:fg%, 38.5 3p%. Averaged 23/8/3 and 1.5 blocks. When I watched him this season, he just looked healthier and stronger than in previous years.

dont think heat have enough to get a whale in a trade .gotta get somebody good w/o a trade or a type b player in a trade

Not at face value. But they can for a disgruntled star who demands a trade and his value drops
This should become much clearer after draft day when we see what Portland does with the 3rd pick. Full rebuild? Lillard becomes available. Trade for an A level player? Lillard stays. Disgruntled star? LeBron? Lol
