wow, i enjoyed almost all of the comments here, because it points out the serious needs of our team. i wholeheartedly agree that this season is already lost and it would be better for us to lose the next game for a higher draft pick. who knows, at number 14, we might be able to snatch a gem just like two 15th draft picks that i know of. we have very good players, but as a whole, our team wouldn't be able to contend as currently constructed, and yes bam is not a center, but an excellent power forward. we also have bad contracts, so it's very hard for us to trade for players and to be able to upgrade. i agree with a rebuilding program, and sad though it may be, we wouldn't really be in contention for at least two years (if we made the right moves), but hopefully we might be able to have a team that can make a lot of noise after that. still, i remain a heat fan, even thoug there a lot of disappointments, the high this team gave me was all worth it. i would really really hate to part with jb, but i think that this is the right time for us to let him go to be able to have future assets, and at the same time deal him to a team that can contend so he would be able to finally snag a championship ring. with our current line-up, our highest ceiling would be just a 2nd round playoff team.

Well said. And while it may be true that we would be a struggling team after a rebuild, I fondly remember the first couple of Wade years. We weren’t going to win a championship, but it was such fun to watch them with that high flying, reckless player. In recent years, it was the Grizzlies and, to a lesser extent, Pelicans. This year, it’s those brash, very young, Thunder players. It’s doubtful they have much chance in these playoffs, but they’re fun to watch!

The hawks came to win underQuinn Snyder. We did not want to play hard.

The Hawks adjusted well. They know we have their # but not that game. Maybe we can do the same with the Bulls coz we haven't won a game vs Chi this season. But im good if our boys bows out of the playoffs. They're not just...themselves. sigh 😞

Agree... this is not the team, which can be threat to Philly, Boston, or Bucks. Big changes are inevitable, and a win or even two would against Bucks would delay them. I prefer loss to Bulls and a total makeover this summer.

The Raptors lead the Bulls 🙈 72-81.

And the Heat have a hard time playing against the Raptors. I think they are 1-3 this season against them. I prefer they’ll play the Bulls.

The Heat need to bring their ‘A’ game or Go Home to whoever they play next, it’s do or die!!!!

and the Bulls win!! Yehey!

Didn't you get swept by the Bulls? Why would you "prefer" them?(Neutral fan)

Because Bam plays better against the Bulls than the Raptors

…. and the Bulls are the less experienced team

Thanks for your passion but we are going to have to limit you from commenting for 24 hours. Please clean up the language and avoid over-posting as others may not want to scroll through all of it, especially during the game threads. We recommending summarizing your thoughts in fewer comments, thanks!

That is much appreciated. Thank you! He really doesn’t use bad language much and is a knowledgeable sports fan. If he limits the sheer number of his (mostly negative) comments, HHH would be more accessible and inclusive. I wouldn’t want to see him banned, however, as differing points of view are always welcome and part of sports talk.

Agreed, we want everybody to have their say so it’s a better experience for everyone if there isn’t so many individual comments from one reader all at once. He is welcome to participate in tonight’s gamethread as all of Heat Nation is.

Yert hasn't been available to pair with Bam most of this season. When he has been in a game, he hasn't contributed much. He showed promise in summer league, but not much after that

That’s exactly right. We know, and have seen, his potential. He had a good stretch last year. But after being out most of this season, the only thing he’s shown when given the chance is that he picks up quick fouls. He’ll be fine in the future, but with limited availability this season, he showed nothing.

This team has been disappointing and maddeningly inconsistent all year. I’m at the point where I think the franchise needs a reset, but I doubt that will happen.

Instead we’ll spend all off season talking about pairing Dame or Beal with Jimmy and Bam, only to see teams with real assets acquire them.

We get so excited but almost never get any of these whales.

I’d rather go in a different direction, with youth. That would have to include trading Butler, who has proven to still be a high level producer on both ends of the court. Get 1 or 2 young players and a couple of picks for him. Draft players like Cason Wallace and Taylor Hendricks. Develop Jovic. Keep Yurt or at least s&t him. Sign Cain and O Robinson. Trade Lowry’s expiring contract.

I mean I’d be all for a Jimmy trade, especially if they can get a haul remotely similar to Godbert, Mitchell or Durant, but while I went to rebuild, unless Pat steps down, I’m not holding my breath.

Honestly this team has a lot of issues. Bam hasn’t been the same after the all star break. Herro seems like he’s capped as a player. Lowry’s contract is only valuable because it’s expiring. Duncan is untradable. Spo’s reluctance to play some of the kids, means Miami has no idea what they have in Jovic, Cain and Robinson.

I’m always rooting for Miami, but if the goal is another championship, Riley has a lot more work to do, and I’m not sure he’s cut out for it, in todays nba.

I agree. You guys are saying everything I have been holding back from expressing outright as I didn't want to sound too negative. It is time to trade Jimmy. We owe that to him as this team is too far from contending now. And, we can start over with what we get in return, as he still has good value. And, it is time to start over.

And, its time to wonder if Pat is the right person to guide this team anymore. He started making mistakes, misassessments, the worst ones starting last year. I used to trust his judgement, but now it seems like the game has passed him by.

As for Herro, I regard him maybe a little higher than most here. I think he is adequate defensively. And he is a really good offensive player. But, I don't mind trading him either, for a good return.

Bam, we should keep, but not play him at center. Or trade him for a haul. Noone else matters much, including Yurt and Jovic. And, who knows how we are going to shed the Robinson contract, and Lowry's.

But, we have to, even if we get fleeced in the process.

Starting over will mean we suck for four years, but better to start now as the cupboard is fully bare by never not going for winning. Time to bite the bullet and let the new era begin.

Hopefully not 4 years. But look at how much fun it is to watch OKC with all those young players! Plus, they have multiple draft picks.

Expand full comment

I envy OKC and Utah and any team with a stockpile of #1 picks. The huge returns teams get these days for star players makes going thru the rebuilding process not that painful. Its not like the other three major sports where you could be terrible forever. In the NBA, unless your GM is an idiot, your time is going to come.

I hope Miami loses on Friday and gets #14 draft pick. Decisions must then be made moving forward. It is clear Miami must clean house. The team has too many marginal players who can't be depended on in a pinch (Strus, Vincent, Oladipo, etc.). Hopefully, Oladipo opts out of 2023-2024. Time to trade Jimmy to a team ready to make a run at a championship in exchange for draft picks and young talent (Detroit, OKC, Memphis, etc.). If Herro can't learn to play half-ass defense, he must go too for more young talent/draft picks. Still have Lowry and Robinson albatross contracts to deal with. Bam is not the player we thought he was. He is being wasted as a center. His natural position is as a power forward. By the way, Miami was outrebounded 63-39 last night. Can you imagine what Milwaukee would do to them on the boards/in the paint, if Miami somehow makes it out of the play-in/wild card round?Overall, this season has marked a wake-up call for Arison and Riley. What worked in the past no longer works today. Evolve or die! P.S. Sign Robinson and Cain before another team swoops them up.

70-30 would translate in 30 points loss... that would be a reality against Bucks. I m not sure if I would like to see something like that.
