You might want to look into Orlando Magic Moritz Wagner, young pup, very good three point shooter for a 6-11 guy, high motor, and an outright bulldog. Could become available due to Orlando’s high number of recent 1st round picks on the roster. He can backup 4-5 with young legs.

well, Bam bullied those two Knicks stiffs during the playoffs

We need a role player stopper to stop players like Aaron Gordon and Bruce Brown from going off

Okay, I’m going to bring blasphemy to a whole new level. And in contrast with my handle, I’m sure this is entirely unrealistic.

BUT…

I just saw one of those many hypothetical trades going around.

It was Bam to Portland for Nurkic, Simons, and the #3 pick (either Scoot or Miller).

Don’t hate me, but I’d do it. At least hfl will be on my side. Ha!

Again, chances of this happening is between slim and none. Just having fun.

You made me think twice there...but still no 😁😁

I take it you don’t agree? 😂

If we are going to entertain that blasphemy then we should also trade Jimmy Butler for picks. This is my hypothetical team just for fun, who knows this team can make it to the playoffs next year

If we can get Prosper C/Pf

which is a Bam type of player that can guard 1 to 5 but also have a catch and shoot in his game that can improve.

Taylor Hendricks PF/C

Who is a 3 and D guy who can also guard 1-5 , great shooter for a big and can be a pick and pop threat.

Kris Murray SF/SG

Another 3- and D guy who can rotate defense and a good catch and shoot player. Funny enough, he kinds of remind me of Jimmy Butler a littler when he attacks the rim. Doesn't have a quick first step but instead is being methodological in the paint. A great disruptor of the passing lane.

Tyler Herro SG/PG

Do i need to have an explanation?

Jalen Slawson as Point Forward

This a jack of all trade player who can play defense from 3-5 , a good playmaker, Great playbook passer and have a offensive versatility. Awesome running sets at the elbow. Just need to improve his ball security and pull up jumper.

Other teams will have a hard time scoring thanks to the switchable defense and will also need to be careful in passing the ball thanks to the length of these players except Herro.

bam is a good player mainly because of his defense,he is def tradeable for the right package.anxious to see turkey man gobble up some rebounds

Expand full comment

Be carefull, this is really close to treason.

How can you trade heats hidden diamond for bunch of Portlands role player and picks?

Those players never saw G-league, how can then play for Heat.

And having top 3 pick? What to do with it?

Expand full comment

I feel like if you make that move, you have to focus on the long term rebuild and move Jimmy, because in the short term it certainly doesn't make you better.

Expand full comment

I’m not so sure. You may be right. But let’s assume 6’9” Brandon Miller is the pick. Nurkic, Miller, Butler, Simons, Herro. Bench - Yurt, O Robinson, Cain, Martin, Jovic, Highsmith, Duncan, Lowry. Starters should get you 80-90 points, you get younger and more athletic, and the bench is solid.

Expand full comment

Projecting Miller to be anything is a crap shoot. Plenty of bad players selected high in the lottery. Simons could be nice, but very similar to Hero, and no defense.

I think it’s a pretty big step back. ESPN trade machine says -5 wins before the pick. You think a rookie nets you 5 wins?

Expand full comment

It’s possible. The kid has shooting and athleticism going for him. So maybe it ends up a wash. But I appreciate that a wash doesn’t help Butler.

nurk always hurt guys to big.body cant take the pounding,if u could get 70games out of him id do it

Yeah, he missed a lot of time last 4 years.

Miami MUST get a two-way big who can patrol the paint and guard the NBA's monsters AND a consistent two-way playmaking PG in order to compete for a championship!

I would settle for two "A-/B+" players at those positions. If they trade Herro for one of them, they will need to replace him with another A-/B+ player. Hell, even a solid C/PF who can defend and spread the floor and an everyday point guard would help. Vincent, Strus and Martin are good rotation players, but not NBA starter material. They are not consistent enough.

There are several trade options out there, especially with teams that are beginning rebuilds (i.e. Detroit, OKC, Utah) or beginning tanking processes e.g. Washington, Charlotte, etc.).

Expand full comment

If able to trade I like the idea Heat for Life put out earlier, Nicola Vucevic & Fred VanVleet. It gives us everything we need. A stretch 5 that is a three level scorer and an adequate defender, which allow Bam to play the 4 and free roam on defense. Vucevic becomes the big road block in the middle for all the Joker types, while Bam covers whatever weaknesses the big may have. Also, a point guard who can defend and is also a three level scorer.

That was my idea.

Porcingis in NY was a different player. Porcingis in Dallas.. he gets into shape after 20 games, end he got injuried in game 21... When Dallas made it to play off, it was all about Luka, Porcingis numbers and minutes went down. At the end he just sit in the corner for 20 minutes a game.

He was better in Washington, but Wash was a lottery team last season.

So, I believe, Boston is worse off with this trade.

Expand full comment

Not sure on the Porzingis trade. Health will be a big factor for him. Granted so was Smart, as neither guy played full seasons. That has to do with Smarts physical play and Porzingis general injury history.

Can’t tell if Porzingis would be a difference maker or not. Was it empty stats on a poor team? I thought after his initial seasons with NY he was heading towards super stardom and then he had the ACL injury that changed his trajectory.

Boston will have some heavy health concerns: Brogdon, Porzingis, and Robert Williams.

They do lose a ball handler and they need one desperately and they can’t live another season of turnover city between Tatum and Brown. Perhaps Chris Paul joins them.

Expand full comment

celts got better.smart is a dog but cant score to well.gali is a scrub now father time injured.porzingis if he stays healthy big time p/u

Expand full comment

I agree, folks around here are down playing Porzingus. He's a solid piece both offensively and defensively. He also will be a match-up problem for Miami. A big part of the reason Miami won was Horford's inability to score, as we saw with Jokic, it's much hard to switch everything, like Miami likes to, when the big has offensive skills.

Maybe Boston will lack heart. Maybe Boston will lack toughness. Those are hard to measure. Losing Smart hurts, but they were set-up for it better than most teams would be with White and Brogdon.

Boston still have Robert Williams or Horford and Brogdon on the bench. They may not have the depth they had this year, but their top 7, could be a problem.

Expand full comment

Depth is important, even more so come playoff time. Just ask the Phoenix Suns what happened to them during this years’ playoff run. BTW, they now find themselves in the same pickle jar the Celtics just jumped into.

The Celtics are already over the luxury tax right after the Porzingis trade. They pretty much traded away three productive guys Smart, Gallinari, and the ability to offer a new contract for restricted free agent Grant Williams. Plus, they have to be able to fund the salary that would have to be spent on their first-round pick, if Boston keeps the No. 25 overall pick they just got from the Grizzlies. Bench depth matters during the second season.

Expand full comment

Agreed, don’t get the downplaying of grabbing a 23 ppg scorer shooting it at pretty efficient numbers added to an already talented duo that almost came back from 3-0 vs Mia. Meanwhile you got some up here thinking Mia can win by running it back with gleaguers again lmao.

Expand full comment

I am not sure the Celtics got better with this deal unless they draft well, and that will likely not help them in 2024. Gallinari was almost as good a player as Porzngis. And the loss of Smart will definitely weaken them. They are going to miss him.

OTOH, those that think we don't need to improve are mistaken. And every day that passes makes me think passing on Lillard is the best way to go. There are no shortage of good players available, and there is really no excuse that we don't get one or preferably two. And, past laurels mean nothing when recent acquisitions include Harkness, Bradley, Love and Zeller.

We need our fabled GM to do his job, and do it like he used to. Can't live in the past forever.

Expand full comment

Boston gets Porzingis for Smart.

We are in finals next year again.

Expand full comment

Well, last year we beat them because their talent couldn't hold up to our toughness. So they traded their toughest player (and made it impossible to re-sign their second toughest player) so they could give $100 million to a 7-footer that doesn't go into the paint.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Expand full comment

It is not a risk-free move, but Porzingis has had a really good season. Lets see how it plays out.

Expand full comment

The matter is not if he’s a good player or if he had a good season. It’s whether he rises to another level when the playoffs come. Ask the Knicks or the Mavericks. For the $36 million player option he just picked up for the 2023-24 season, NO THANKS.

I Agree with oregoner, the Celtics gave up their heart and soul, their only true bulldog in Marcus Smart.

Expand full comment

I am not sure whether he can rise to another level come playoff time. But I believe he will make them a better team (if he can stay healthy) even at his regular level. 36 mil is a lot of money, but so is 30 mil Lowry is due. If I were to choose between those two now, I would choose Porzingis.

I agree with you guys about Boston losing their soul by trading Smart and (likely) losing Grant Williams. If I were their fan, I would not particularly like this aspect of the deal.

Expand full comment

I'm assuming things play out how they always play out. The Celtics look good in the regular season. The Heat beat them in the playoffs. Everyone talks about how the Celtics won more quarters and should have won. Then they make a big offseason move, the Heat add a couple Skyforce guys, and we repeat the process.

Expand full comment

I can't believe the blasphemy I am reading on this comment thread.

Of course the Celtics and the Sixers and the other chumps in the East are going to make moves. Those teams win the offseason. Every year. And then the Heat beat them in the postseason. Every year. That's part of the fun!

Expand full comment

Got a point there...we are always the spoilers to these teams haha

we do it every year. remember last year when the Celtics added Gallo & Brogden, and the Sixers added PJ Tucker, and everyone was worried they had gotten better and the Heat didn't? How did that work out?

Blasphemy is in the eye of the beholder.

Celtics just lost Smart & Grant Williams, the only two players that would dive after a lose ball, and used them to pay $30 million to a 7-footer that doesn't go into the paint.

Czech, you've been a Heat fan at least since Goran came on board. That's almost a decade. You know how King Riley operates.

He's either going to land a whale (Lillard), or he's going to make small moves on the margins. As much as I would love to see the Heat add someone like Kuzma or Bruce Brown, that's just not his style.

Expand full comment

Actually, I’ve been a Heat fan since before 1988 - whenever the Aronson/Cunningham announcement was made.

I really respect your optimism. But I think we do need to make more of a splash. If we don’t land the A+ or A players, we need to add a couple of B+ players. Also, any player we obtain is a player denied to our competitors. I think the deficiencies on this team will not be resolved by the Kevin Love or Cody Zeller level players.

Expand full comment

Dang, you've been around longer than me. I came on board when the Riley/Zo/Hardaway thing happened.

In that case, my point stands even more than before. When was the last time you remember Riley going after a B+ free agent? That dude wants an A++, otherwise he'll settle for a couple C's and bide his time. Maybe go for a B at the trade deadline.

And I agree, that really hurt us in the Finals this year. But it's his way. And you can't argue with the results.

Expand full comment

Hmm, I gotta think about that and it may depend upon how different people may rate different players. Names that come to mind are Odom, Antoine Walker, Mashburn.

Expand full comment

I forget how we got Mashburn.

The Walker trade was an absolute blockbuster. It included Jason Williams and a handful of other players. I'm still sad that Eddie Jones got shipped out in that one.

And don't get me started on the Odom trade. It's literally the trade that revived the franchise after the Mourning era fell apart. OBW for life!
