Touché. Been a Blazer fan since 1970 when I was in the womb. I actually like the Heat and love coach Spo who got his start in PDX. I am just having a little fun with you Heat fans. I think Riley let his pride, ego, and a good dose of hubris get in the way of making he Heat a better team this off-season. Am I wrong?

This Portland Lillard story, if anything, shows the difference in thinking between two franchises, both front offices and fan bases.

Lillard is great player, and Miami offer what seems to be a generous offer for, I believe front office, and most fans. We value our players high, but rest of the leagues value Heat players, except Bam and Butler, low for whatever reason.

The difference is here.

Miami is searching for overlooked players and make them good players. And try to get already established great players, when available, like Lillard. Most teams prefer to have high pick and talented players, and some sell their best players to get those, like Portland did.

So, you and most teams fans could be happy with what you get for Lillard. But for Miami fan like me you get an former first pick, which didnt prove his value, and center, which is injuried a lot. And who needs centers which doesnt shoot threes or make plays nowadays?

Nobody besides Portland, which needs two of them.

Picks?

Miami last pick bellow no. 10 was back in 2008. Miami can live without high picks.

Miami made two finals and one east finals in past 4 years, with players not valuable. Portland tanked for last 2 years and will tank for 2-3 years at least.

I m not dissapointed about Lillard. Somebody else will come in Miami sooner or later to help win it all. I wonder who will want in Portland after this summer.

Manila Heat pretty much sums up my feelings. If I was a Portland fan, I’d be looking forward to seeing how this young team develops rather than trolling a fan base of one of the more successful teams of the past 20 years. A team that rarely has the luxury of high draft picks, yet somehow is in the mix with 5-7 G leaguers on the roster, including 3 starters last season.

Expand full comment

No one knows what or who Pat really listed on that offer. I personally congratulate Portland for the "success" of their off season. Riley, imo, just offered what he can without tearing the finals team he had recently. And that's reasonable...well for some of us here but not everyone. To each his own. The effect of all this drama will be seen by next yr and come playoffs.

Yeah you’re wrong loser. Being a blazer fan must suck, you don’t celebrate winning rather sticking it to a FO it’s rather pathetic. A team and fan base of losers just happy to be mentioned in the same breathe as Mia while being a sorry ass team that hasn’t won anything of importance since the fucking 70s, but hey celebrate trading another franchise guy away while he wins somewhere else whilst the team you root for stays in the basement. But hey y’all stuck it to Riley is y’all championship

Settle down Beavis. You are proof that "Florida Man" does exist. Lay off the bath salts dude.

Lol you’re the one on another teams site happy you lost your franchise player. If dame wins in Milwaukee it doesn’t mean the blazers get a ring you do know this? Also what’s lost in all of this and until further notice Tyler Herro>any player on the Blazers roster

Expand full comment

Yep, there it is! I went on your site to poke a little fun because for the last three months Heat fans have been on our sites trying to convince us that Tyler Herro is an all-star and we should be grateful for the offer consisting of Herro and collective trash cap filler. Everyone in the league knows Herro is an okay player on an over-priced contract and plays a position where the Blazers have young players, under rookie contracts, with high upsides. If Herro was such a great player other teams would have called Riley when he became available for trades, but the phone never rang and now you are stuck with an over-priced guard who is butt-hurt. Good luck with that.

And I never went on that loser site for shit. Just stating facts. Y’all can shit on herro all you want but nobody on the blazers is better rn that’s what I’m saying loser

Was the best late 4th quarter clutch player in the league last season. Was #1 in ft % in the league. Won 6moy the previous season. Has averaged 20/5/4 with 38% 3pt% last 2 seasons. In his 4 seasons, he’s averaged 38% 3pt% - Lillard career average is 37% . Neither plays much defense. Herro will likely never come close to Lillard’s greatness, but to discount him as some type of player no team would want is ludicrous. You have no idea what was offered for him and what the Heat May have turned down.

Changing your handle by one letter would be appropriate. sad, not sid.

Expand full comment

Proof is in the pudding baby. There are 29 NBA teams who do not value Herro as much as the Heat do. Some Heat fans seem to be suffering from a bad case of myopia when it comes to Herro. Supply and demand...you got the supply, but there ain't no demand.

Expand full comment

Suck it Pat Riley. Tried to play hardball with the Blazers and watched Milwaukie and Boston get significantly better. There is no way the Heat can spin this to make it look like anything other than a self inflicted wound. Hubris and karma caught up with Pat Riley. Heat "culture" takes a hit.

I just want to express something very third il and probably noone will see it because this thread is days old but I want to stick up for Tyler Herro. Not only is he a very good player, but a good teammate and a class act. Here comes the controversial part....It is true that many, if not all, teams undervalue him but that is for a series of reasons that boil down to is a finesse player who happens to be white. This is where the people who don't see his full potential are wrong. He is the real deal, the rarest of the rare, a quick twitch, highly athletic player who has come around quite infrequently in the NBA. I can name only a few, Maravich, Havlicek, and to a slightly lesser extent White Chocolate and Danny Ainge. Thats it that I can think of. Obviously there have been plenty of successful white gaurds and white big men, but players of this kind of athleticism, who play the two or three, who happen to be white (and not often black either) are rare indeed. And it matters because his atheticism is not far from that of the best of black point gaurds, Iversonesque, if you will. This means he's so quick that noone blows by him easily, and he isn't going to jump early on a fake. The only way you beat him regularly defensively is to out muscle him, which is his weakness. But, even there he's bulked up enough that he no should be adequate defensively, and on team defense he's quick enough to get steals. And, offensively, his creativity is very high, as he can score of the dribble, has good hops, has good vision and passing, and has a clutchness about him that stands out over most. Another weakness is his point gaurd work, where he doesn't protect the ball quite well enough and I doubt he can improve there so shouldn't be bringing the ball up. And, did I also mention he ever misses free throws. Despite all this, he is somewhat undervalued and its a little unfair. People should watch him play closer, see how he moves. I think Miami fans think better of him than everyone else because we see him game in and out.

Expand full comment

Well written and thoughtful post. Hopefully fences can be mended and he can feel like an appreciated part of the team again. It is a business and this was his first exposure to that. Most Blazers fans did not want him as part of the Dame trade because we are excited about Scoot, Shaedon, and Anfernee developing and getting opportunities to flourish. Seems like a good dude and has proven skills but not playing a position of need for Blazers.

Expand full comment

I agree. It was just a poor fit with the Blazers. But, the rest of the league did not seem to embrace his availability in accordance with his value. I thought of one other player in his mold, Detlef Shrempf. But, I think Herro has a little more natural quick twitch athleticism than Shrempf. It would not be impossible to envision Herro becoming even more effective than he already has been in the future. He is a very gifted athlete.

Expand full comment

Yes, I always thought they would find a third team wanting him in a Dame trade. Rumor out here was Utah and Brooklyn had interest in being that 3rd team. Schrempf? I haven't thought of him in a while. I used to love watching him and AC Green go at it in College. Those Beaver Husky matchups in the 80's were stellar and their careers in college and the NBA were great. RIP PAC-10.

I don't know about Boston. Seems like a push to me. Their best defense against Jimmy was Williams. Same would be true against Embiid and Giannis.

Maybe I'm betting low on Porzingis, when was his last meaningful playoff basketball though? Have we seen him have to adjust his game in a series? It's 10% better Kevin Love that dynamic?

On paper definitely two favorites in the East. But we play games and seasons for a reason. Also, we have to see what Riley does, which I think is start the season and see if anything shakes out with another player.

If we can get Terry Rozier (PG) for DRobinson and a pick, that would be great. If not, Herro for Rozier and Kai (Head Trip) Jones (C).

Starters: Rozier, Herro, Butler, Martin, Bam -OR- Rozier, Richardson, Butler, Martin, Bam

With: Lowry, Jaquez, Jovic, Love, ORobinson, DRobinson, Bryant, Highsmith, Cain, Hampton...waiting in the wings.

I can't wait to see what Jovic, Jaquez, ORobinson, Highsmith and Cain bring to the table this year. 1-2 could be starters and 1-2 more could be solid rotation players...maybe by later this season.

GO HEAT!!!

Expand full comment

When it comes to trading, the question is whether either team is interested. Rozier is an intriguing player, but I can't seem to accurately determine his trade value. It would be great if 1-2 of Jovic, Jaquez, ORobinson, Highsmith, or Cain could become reliable rotation players and help elevate the team (I highly hope so). However, expecting them to start right away is unrealistic. They need to prove themselves at a higher level before being considered as potential starters. Of course, they may be called upon to start due to strategic matchups or injuries, but as legitimate starters, not yet.

I know you have suggested trading for Rozier before but is that even something Charlotte has been trying to do?

"Dame gave his heart and soul to the City of Portland.

In return the franchise surrounded him with Clowns like Allen, Olshey, Cronin, and Billups. We overpaid guys like Crabbe, Leonard, Turner and that bum Jusuf Nurkic. We traded away valuable assets, blew it in the draft and signed washed up burnt out free agents. Any and every team fleeced us at the bargaining table.

Dame remained loyal until the end.

Now we move forward with the Cronin, Billups, and Ayton. We grossly overpaid Jerami Grant. Somebody will take advantage of Cronin when we trade Jrue Holiday. We have nobody to teach the young guys Scoot, Sharp, Simmons -

Good luck Dame - Love you man.

47 years a Blazers fan - I’m officially done with this franchise.

LimitedUpside

Blazers could LOSE 1st round pick next year? Lillard revealed Cronin asked him to sit for final 10 games to improve draft position. This will trigger a league investigation and - well, that could be all they need to sanction Portland. My guess is they nullify our pick next year, which could be a Top 5 selection. Huge management mistake, and this sets the team back.

i would say a good fan site is one where people talk a little bit of trash but mostly just want to talk about basketball.

Now go look at the Blazers site, see how many people are talking about positional fit or playing style for the new-look team. Then compare that to how many people are mad at Dame or mad at the Heat or just mad at the person that made the comment above theirs. Just a bunch of miserable bastards getting mad at each other. And the worst part, the one thing nobody seems to be upset about is the fact that the team stinks!
